A TASTE OF EGYPTT

EGYPT

“Land of the Pharoahs”

Couple the exploration of the wonders of ancient Egypt with belly dancing workshops and what do you get? HEAVEN!!! My trip to Egypt was the perfect mix of ancient history and enduring culture … with some fun times thrown in too!

On the spur of the moment, I booked my trip to Egypt … Enchanting and mystical, the captivating splendor of ancient Egypt has remained unsurpassed … I just had to go! In 2 days everything had been arranged, from my flight ticket and accommodation to my booking with the Nile Group! I guess doing things spontaneously is just my way ? … and it was well worth it! It was truly the best trip I’ve been on so far!

I danced for 9 hours a day for 6 days in a row …. It was exhausting … and at times I didn’t think I was going to make it … but it was still heaven! I learnt so much … and it was wonderful to really live belly dancing … to eat, sleep, and drink it! I was fortunate enough to attend workshops with the most amazing Egyptian Master Teachers listed below:

• Mahmoud Reda
• Aida Nour
• Freiz
• Mohamed Kazafy
• Osama Eman
• Khaled Mahmoud
• Nesrin
• Olfat Hassan
• Magdy El Leisy
• Faruk Mustafa
• Aida Riad
• Liza Laziza
• Neveen Ramiz
• Yousef

During the festival I also attended many parties, one of which was a Galabeya party where we watched an amazing folkloric dance show ….. The whirling dervish dancers are truly amazing!! The parties were also an opportunity to network, and I met so many dancers from all over the world! Marcela from the Czech Republic (she was my room-mate), Ebba from Norway, Emma from Japan, Irene from Russia, Lorna from Scotland …. And so many more! Belly dancing is an addiction all over the world!

I spent an afternoon at the Giza Plateau exploring the most famous wonderland in the whole world - the Great Pyramids of Giza and the enigmatic Sphinx who guards the pyramids! WOW! Breathtaking!

Exploring Cairo was also quite an adventure …. With its expansive necropolis and Coptic streets! My trip to the Khan El-Khalily Bazaar was definitely one of my highlights … coming from a country limited with choice when it comes to costuming, it was just incredible to see a place where beautiful costumes and accessories are found in abundance!

The day I came back to South Africa was also the day I started planning my next trip to Egypt, which will be in February 2008. I believe every dancer that is serious about Belly Dancing should go to Egypt at least once; the age of the city makes you realize how great this civilization once was, rich in history and culture! My trip gave me a new perspective and made me realize it’s the music and passion for life that enlightens the Egyptians!

Fabulous! Spectacular! Amazing! It was an experience of a lifetime!
